We are not currently recruiting for any positions in our UK team. We have a company policy of only using local (non-Western) tour leaders & guides to run our tours.

Travel Consultant

General Role:
This post is based in our office outside Leeds, West Yorkshire, in the UK, and is a sales consultant for a specialist tour-operator. Our main destinations are Egypt & Jordan, Nepal & India, and Thailand Vietnam & Cambodia. Depending on your work and travel experience, and how you'll fit into our existing team, you'll specialise in one of these regions, with some other work in other destinations to follow. 
The starting salary is £15,000 p/a, with an annual bonus based on personal and company performance.
  
1. Job Description:

Pre-Sales:
  • Answering some telephone & mainly email enquiries from prospective customers. Recording their requirements appropriately and either following them up personally, or passing them to the appropriate member of staff
  • Creating and pricing tailor-made itineraries, including liaising with local suppliers.
  • Replying to and handling requests from travel agents
Post-Sales, Pre-Tour:
  • Searching for and booking flights for clients
  • Arranging travel insurance for clients
  • Handling customer correspondence, invoices and booking administration
  • Using computer booking system
  • Booking holiday arrangements with local suppliers
During Tour:
  • Liaising with local suppliers with regard to clients while on holiday
Post-Tour:
  • Handling customer feedback
General:
  • Checking agent invoices
  • General office administration
  • Research and writing content relating to holiday destinations.
  • Some travel abroad will be required researching holiday destinations and local operations.
  • Salaried position. Some evening & weekend work may be required.

2. Person Specification:
  
Qualifications:

a) Must have:
GCSE/’O’-Level English – C
GCSE/’O’-Level Maths – C
Some further qualification(s) showing education beyond GCSE/’O’-level standard.

b) Preferred:
Further education qualifications (eg. A-levels, HND, degree, professional qualifications)
Professional qualifications in the tourist industry.

Experience:


a)    Must have:
Travelled abroad in at least one non-Western country

b)    Preferred:
At least 6 months experience of working in any tour operator or travel agency sales environment.
Experience of travel in Egypt/Jordan, India/Nepal, Thailand/Vietnam/Cambodia.
Some experience of working for a small-medium tour operator running holidays in one of more of these regions, or other non-Western countries, handling sales & bookings administration.

Qualities:

a)    Must have:

Good written English and a professional telephone manner
Confidence and skills with basic PC software (windows, Word) and the use of the internet
Ability to talk & write about foreign holiday destinations and itineraries.
Appreciation of the importance of excellent customer service, and ability to carry this out.
Ability to organise your own work, and work to deadlines and targets, with good attention to detail.
Confidence and ability to work as an integral part of a small team in a home-based office environment
Typing speed of at least 40wpm
Full passport enabling travel throughout the world

b)    Preferred:
Typing speed over 60wpm
Interest in ‘non-package’ holidays to foreign countries, and the travel industry in general.
