The Treasury in Petra, Jordan
The Treasury in Petra, Jordan
While Egypt's many historical sites are rightly famous, Jordan also has a lot to offer the modern traveller including historical remains from many different cultures, and beautiful scenery. We start by visiting the pyramids & sphinx and main sites in Cairo before featuring a luxury Nile Cruise from Aswan to Luxor. You can visit St. Catherine's Monastery & Mt. Sinai, and enjoy some snorkelling, before heading to Jordan to travel up the King's Highway and visit Petra, Wadi Rum and the Dead Sea, among other sites.

Update July 09:  Our Oberoi Mena House hotel allocation has been extended through until April 2010 so all our group departures will use this hotel, right at the foot of the pyramids, for their first stay in Cairo (2 nights).
The tour itinerary has also been updated slightly to improve the experience of Days 10-13 from Cairo to the Red Sea and into Jordan.

You start your Egyptian adventure in Cairo with a visit one of the seven wonders of the ancient world, the great pyramids at Gisa. Our next tour visits the famous Egyptian Museum, the Citadel, a couple of mosques, and the Khan-el-Khalili bazaar.

An overnight sleeper train takes you south to the beautiful town of Aswan, on the banks of the Nile just north of the Aswan Dam and Lake Nasser. Here the Nile is at its most attractive, and you have time to relax and watch feluccas sail lazily around the many small islands or experience traditional Egyptian life with a stroll along the mazy streets of the town’s colourful bazaar. We take you on a visit to the island temple of Philae and you have the option of a tour to to Abu Simbel, with its remarkable rebuilt temple to Ramses II, before beginning your cruise down the Nile towards Luxor.
On board, you can relax by the pool and watch the world go by during the day, and enjoy different cuisines in the boat restaurant each evening.

En route you will stop at the temples of Komombo and Edfu before finally reaching Luxor. In itself Luxor you take a tour to the Pharaonic tombs in the Valleys of the Kings, visit the Queen Hatchepsut and Medinat Habu temples, and also tour the vast temples of Luxor and Karnak.

From Luxor you travel back to Cairo where there is an option to visit the Mediterranean city of Alexandria or Wadi Rayan and the Valley of the Whales, before we drive across the Suez Canal and into the Sinai peninsular where we spend two nights in Dahab on the Red Sea. Here you can relax after the week's sightseeing, do some snorkelling, or visit Mt. Sinai and St. Katherine's monastery.

Next we cross into Jordan and feature a traditional Bedouin lunch and jeep safari amid the stunning desert & mountain scenery of Wadi Rum. Our next stop is Petra, one of the highlights of the tour, where we have a full day tour of this world famous Nabatean city. We include a 2-day ticket so you can re-visit the site the following morning, and there is also the option to enjoy the Petra by Candlelight tour in the evening.

From Petra we head north up the scenic King's Highway to Amman, with stops to visit the crusader castle of Kerak, the intricate Byzantine mosaics at Madaba, and the peaks, churches and distant views at Mt. Nebo. We take a day trip out from Amman to bathe in the Dead Sea, and visit the Roman Ruins at Jerash. The tour finishes in Amman (Open Jaw flights are readily available to fly into Cairo and out of Amman).
