The Sphinx in Gisa, Egypt
The Sphinx in Gisa, Egypt
The land of the Pharaohs is blessed with both incredible natural beauty and unrivalled architectural history. Egypt’s landscape of vast trackless deserts, beautiful mountain scenery and Red Sea coastline conceals the Nile Valley, known throughout the world for its awe-inspiring collection of pyramids, temples and tombs. Today they stand as a permanent testament to the wealth and grandeur of a long dead civilisation and attract millions of visitors each year.

Starting in Cairo we make a visit to the Gisa Plateaux to see the Great Pyramids and mysterious Sphinx. These awesome ancient monuments have withstood the tests of time, giving us a fascinating and unique glimpse into the past. We also visit Saqqara, home to one of the first attempts at pyramid building, Zoser's step 'pyramid'.

From here we travel by overnight train through the Nile Valley to Luxor and its spectacular collection of temples and tombs. On the east bank we visit the colossal and well preserved Temples of Karnak and Luxor. On the west bank of the Nile we take time to explore the Valley of the Kings, Queen Hatchepsut & Medinat Habu temples, and learn much more baout ancient Egyptian history.

After a return train to Cairo and a tour of the Egyptian Museum, home to the famous Tutankhamun display, th Citadel and Khan-el-Khalili bazaar, we leave the Nile Valley behind and head into the Sinai Peninsular and the laidback Red Sea beach resort of Dahab. Here we spend several days relaxing by the beach and enjoying the fantastic swimming and snorkelling available on and around some of the world’s best coral reefs. We also take time for a camel ride and you have the chance to climb mount Sinai for sunrise over the mountains.

Finally we head back to Cairo where we have a little time for some last minute shopping and sightseeing before our tour ends.

Note: From 1st May 2008 this tour will no longer use the overnight coach from Luxor to Dahab and will be extended from 11 to 12 days in length.
